The Trevi Fountain has, this morning, an unusual role: it’s completely empty. The water was removed to allow the initiation of a screening of the entire monument to see what kind of restoration it will need. On the site even the superintendent of Roma Capitale, Umberto Broccoli and the commissioner Dino Gasperini.
The teams are cleaning with brooms on the bottom of the fountain which had remained some lucky coins. The restoration at this time will be only interested in the two sides of the Fountain: on the left of the façade with scaffolding stable and on the right with a treadmill. Both interventions were ordained in ‘utmost urgency’ also because of the collapse that happened in June. With this intervention, however, “we want to do a check-up of the central part to check the state of conservation of the prospectus”, said Gasperini.
Of course, he added, “we must clean up the word ‘Benedictus XIV ‘that stands in the central part of the Trevi Fountain”.
